If The Hat Fits

For the witch's hat you will need...
A HAT: I found a cute little one at Walmart in the adult section. These hats come on headbands and there are different styles. I just loved this one cause it was silky with tulle and and feathers. It was a good starter hat. The hats can really be any size, just make sure that your base or candle stick is proportionate.
CHIPBOARD: I get this at Green Tangerine, but I am sure for all you lucky people who are blessed with a Hobbly Lobby near by, there is some there.
9" CANDLE STICK: found at your local craft store or you can probably find some cool ones at Good Will.

EMBELLISHMENTS: Have fun with this. I got some black lace, tulle, and some colored feathers. I also used an old broach. If you can't find any old broaches, Michael's has some great looking pieces (just remember to bring your coupon).
TEA BAGS: This is used to antique the hat sign.
HOT GLUE
BLACK PAINT
MOD PODGE

Step 1: Take off all the stuff on the witch hat. It is attached by hot glue so it will come off pretty easily. Discard the black fabric roses as well as the little bows. Keep the pretty feathers for later. Take off the spiders on the tulle veil (they are sewn on) and reposition them on the veil so that they are not all in a row.

Step 2: Cut a circle out of chipboard to go on the bottom of the hat. If you are using the Walmart hat it is an 8" circle. Paint the top, bottom, and sides of the chipboard black. Next hot glue the hat to the circle.

Step 3: Begin embellishments. Cut a strip of tulle about 3" wide and gather.

I did the same with some lace cut 1" wide.

Step 4: Hot glue the tulle around the base of the hat and then do the same with the lace. If there is any hot glue visible, paint it black.

Step 5: A peacock was attacked the other night on our street and so Linda grabbed a few feathers. I added these feathers to the original black ones that came with hat and hot glue them over the tulle, but behind the lace. (you can find some great colored feathers at Joann's or Michael's, just make sure you a coupon) And last attach the broach. You can either hot glue it or just pin it on.

Step 6: Paint the candlestick black and then to age it, lightly sand it. Once satisfied, apply a light layer of Mod Podge to add a clean finish.
Step 7: OPTIONAL To make the Hat sign, select a font on the computer and print it up on normal paper, cut it into a desired shape and then using the tea bag method from the Book Tutorial, age the paper. Once it dries Mod Podge the sign to some chipboard and then hot glue to the candle stick. (note: to make the sign appear dementional I used a paint brush and an ink pad to create the shadows)
Step 8: Hot glue the hat to the top of the candle stick.
