Camera or Camcorder?

So I've been thinking a lot lately about buying a new camera or camcorder. I've been doing research on the different camcorders reading reviews and all but I'm still having the hardest time making up my mind. That's why I wanted to ask for everyone's opinion. Is it worth it to pay a little more for a camcorder or do the cameras out these days take good enough video? Let me know what you guys prefer or your first hand experiences with one or the other. If I get a camcorder, I would get a hard drive model, and as for the camera, I would probably stick with a sony cybershot or something similar. I will appreciate everyone's input.

Our camera can record video. We have a camcorder, too, but we never use it because our camera video function does a pretty good job. And usually by the time we've pulled out the video camera, the moment is gone. It is nice to have when we are out places, too. That way we don't have to carry around our camcorder and our camera. When you go to best buy or wherever to get your camera, you can test the video function on the floor models to see how it works.

yes, i agree with Jen. Spend the money for a really nice camera that takes video. Our camera sucks, but it takes video ok. We hardly ever use our video camera, but that's just us. I always have my camera on hand is just easier. Good luck!

I third that. I like using our camera to do video for a couple of reasons... it's more handy to have, smaller, & you can blog the videos easier. We do use our camcorder if we are going somewhere that we know we will be recording like... going to the zoo, amusment park, Christmas morning, our child's birth =)... The camcorder will record a better video. So it really just depends on what you are wanting to be recording. Also, a downside with using a camera for your camcorder on our camera (which cost $299) you can't zoom WHILE recording. (check out Megan's sledding video for example.) Tough choice, Josh has a lot of suggestions too since he has researched that stuff a lot, you guys will have to talk. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have been leaning towards the camera now. Just gotta find the right one in the right price range, which isn't always easy.
